The Newport Loyalty Day and Sea Fair Festival Association announces the 2010 Senior Court. Under this year’s theme, "Honor, Respect, Remember",  the following seniors from Newport High School have been selected; Carly Clark, Ashley Holten-Terrel, Jackie Maughan and Simone Washington.  

Carly Clark is the daughter of Don Clark Jr. and Debby Clark. She has one brother, Ty and one sister Taya. Carly has been a resident of Newport for over 17 years.
 
Carly is actively involved at Newport High School as the Student Body President, November student of the month, school dedication nomination, National Honors Society and sophomore year Winter Ball Court Princess. She is also busy with basketball, softball, student council, Child Psy. Club and the Jr. Optimist club
 
Her educational goals are to earn a Masters Degree in Education with her Major in History. She would like to be a High School teacher while also continuing on with leadership roles in the community. When asked why she wanted to become a Loyalty Day Court member, she indicated she is proud of her hometown of Newport, has always loved coming out for the Loyalty Days Parade and feels being a Court member will always be a part of her life that she will be able to look back on and be proud of.
 
Ashley Holten-Terrell is the foster daughter of Leo and Michelle Newman. She has one brother, Jaycob Terrell and a foster sister, Gabriella Newman. She has been a resident of Newport for 1 and a half years.
 
Ashley has been honored with the following since coming to Newport High School; 2009 Humanitarian Award, 2009 Story of the Year - Harbor Lights Newspaper and elected Junior Optimist Club President. She volunteers at the Newport Recreation Center, enjoys reading, music and photography.
 
She plans on furthering her education by attending a college that will open up doors to a career she can excel at. When asked why she wanted to become a Loyalty Day Court member she said she wanted to be a part of a community wide tradition. She feels traditions provide stability in life. Ashley also felt the opportunity would give her a chance to support her school and an amazing community.
 
Our next court member is Jackie Maughan. She is the daughter of Sharon Maughn and has 4 siblings; Cassie, Dallas, Brandon and Shane. Jackie has been a resident of Newport for almost 3 years.
 
Jackie has been involved in the National Honors Society and is the Public Relations Officer in the Jr. Optimist Club at Newport High School. She has performed in CAP’s Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and is on the Newport High School Golf Club.
 
Her sights are on attending BYU and a degree in Law with a goal of someday being a Judge. When asked why she would like to be a Loyalty Day Court member she said reading the origins of Loyalty Days, it talked about patriotism. She is proud to call her two brothers her hero’s as they currently serve our country. Jackie feels being on the Loyalty Day Court will give her an opportunity to set an example for others as her brothers have for her. 
 
The final Newport Loyalty Day Court member is Simone Washington. She is the daughter of Mary Collins and has 3 siblings; Christian, Carmyn and Justine. Simone has lived in Newport for 3 years.
 
Simone has been nominated for the Humanitarian Award, is involved in Dance Club, Cheerleading, has served as the Harbor lights Advertising Manager and sits on the Student Council. She enjoys writing plays, dancing and volunteering for community service projects.
 
Her future goals will include acting lessons as she would like to set her sights on being an actress and producer. She would like to attend either OSU or the U of O. When asked why she wanted to be a Loyalty Day Court member she said she would like to get the experience of one of Lincoln County’s traditions to apply toward her final year at Newport High School. She has heard it is a wonderful experience from past court members. She feels being a court member would be an honor.
 
The Newport Loyalty Day & Sea Fair Festival will begin Thursday, April 29th  – Sunday May 2nd . “ Honor, Respect, Remember” has been selected as this year’s theme. A scholarship fund for the Newport Loyalty Day Senior court was first established in the mid-Seventies. The purpose is to advance the young women’s public speaking abilities and act as Ambassadors for the City of Newport during the festival weekend and also while attending out of town activities. Public donations to the scholarship funds are accepted and are tax deductible. The 2010 Senior Court Chair, Robin McRoberts can be reached at (541) 961-0041.
